Yesterday, September 10, 2025, was a day when Americans were again brutally reminded that evil prevails when good men do nothing. Charlie Kirk was assassinated in Orem, Utah, while discussing political issues with students at Utah Valley University. Shot in the throat, which is the intersection of nerve and blood interconnections from the body to the brain, life was extinguished from this charismatic 31-year-old Christian man, who was attempting to foster friendly understanding about controversial issues facing our nation.
At the time of the shooting, Bill O’Reilly’s latest book, “Confronting Evil”, was first being made available and delivered to readers nationwide. Only a few days earlier, TV viewers watched the video of beautiful young Iryna Zarutska in Charlotte, North Carolina, having her throat slashed, bleeding her life away. Her evil assailant was a perennial criminal whose permanent incarceration was repeatedly circumvented by our indulgent judicial system.
Today is the 24th anniversary of the attacks on our country on September 11, 2001, that killed 3,000 citizens. In its aftermath, thousands more people died. Hundreds of thousands of refugees entered Western Europe, which is causing major political unrest that threatens the stability of the area.
Those who think evil is an obsolete concept are either complete idiots, among those who fall into the category of those who promote evil by doing nothing to confront it, or political elites who are undermining our nation’s foundations by promoting their own power, greed, or ideologies.
In “Confronting Evil”, Bill O’Reilly presents the consummate carnage that eight evil dictators inflicted on the communities they ruled or attacked and the millions that died from their actions. Evil historical groups that promoted evil results, like slavery and drug usage, were also included, along with the detailed summaries of these evil individuals.
The evil purveyed by our modern American practitioners of their trade is not so self-evident. Often, what they do is presented as helping the disadvantaged or highlighting false political choices. As an example, President Lyndon Johnson created the Great Society to help the nation’s mainly black underclass, even though black American families had been improving their lot for decades. The financial and other governmental Great Society ‘incentives’ broke up black families, leaving many children fatherless, which increased crime and black poverty. The number of black children born now who survived childhood barely exceeds the number of black abortions performed that same year.
Being now dependent on federal largesse for survival, that segment of our population perennially supported their Democratic benefactors. The road to Hell is paved with good intentions, which often create evil results.
The Great Society’s expansion in the United States into a European-style Welfare State has created a staggering $37 trillion federal debt, which is growing annually without a foreseeable end. The American two-party system, with deeply divided government, seems incapable of abating this growth, which will ultimately destroy our Republic. The budget and revenue responsibility is vested in the Legislative Branch by the Constitution, and in recent polls, the voting public has only 22 percent favorable views of that body. Are representatives of the people who were elected to represent them, but who have performed so poorly, a responsible or evil force in maintaining our Constitutional Republic for another 250 years?
The killings of Charlie and Iryna were examples of political and lawless evil permeating our society, which we as citizens in the community have allowed to prevail. The rapid deterioration of our political and economic system, which created the most envied nation the world has seen, is likewise an example of allowing the evils of power, greed, and ideology to prevail.
If these evils continue, expect a future edition of “Confronting Evil” to feature a cast of Americans on its pages.
Our prayers go out to families and friends of those included here and those other unnamed American victims of the evil forces working within our society to undermine it.
