Not since the Civil War have our People been so divided. Not since Pearl Harbor has our nation faced so many threats to our survival, now even our civilization. Never have our people have been so unable to perceive what went wrong, why our culture seems to be coming unglued, what are the real threats facing us as citizens and our nation, or what We the People can do to impact a change in our nation’s downward descent. “Looking Through a Class Darkly” will help us to see things more clearly as we seek to find the truths that will redeem us and our Republic.

From the Hornist’s Nest to the Day the Wall Came Down

From the Hornets Nest to the Day the Wall Came Down My grandfather, Alpheus Green Jenkins, was born in Winchester County, Tennessee, on January 4, 1845, and he moved to Brazos County, Texas, at the age of nine, in 1854. With his grandfather and two brothers, they and the generations of my father and my siblings spanned two-thirds of our nation’s history back to 1776 and the Declaration of Independence. During this time, Texas grew from a raw frontier to become the leading state in the Union in political influence, in economic growth and power, and the most prominent advocate of our country’s founding principles. These three generations served honorably in five wars – the American Civil War, World Wars I & II, the Korean War, and the Cold War – three of us graduating from Texas A & M University as officers in the U.S. military. My mother’s great grandfather, James Elias Whitmore, left Pennsylvania at age nineteen and by boat from New York City, overland across Panama, and another boat traveled to San Francisco to become a part of the Great Gold Rush which began in 1849. Whitmore later settled in eastern New Mexico in 1860 on a ranch and trading post that straddled the east/west Santa Fe Trail and the north/south Goodnight Trail. A segment of the Berlin Wall, which came down under President George H. W. Bush in 989, is located near the Bush Library on the A & M campus. It represents that last war in which Jenkins men have served.
