Before the 2024 presidential election, Donald Trump’s opponents claimed that the world would self-destruct by 2050 if the United States and the Western world did not cease and desist using energy that produces carbon emissions for lighting homes, fueling vehicles, or powering factories. This cacophony was emitted by President Joe Biden and his Administration, activists and bureaucrats in the European Union, by Harvard and other elite universities, and the United Nations. This is a very toxic mix!
“Save the Planet!” and similar slogans and chants became the themes of a new ideology around the world of the GREEN environmental movement. Seeking meaning in their lives, adherents embraced this new religion. Accepting carbon emissions as the root cause of our current warming period could never have achieved almost universal media acceptance and outright promotion without it becoming a new ideology. If this new movement had a valid foundation for support, who could be against it?
Never to let a new opportunity go to waste, political opportunists joined the climate change parade. A key campaign promise by President Barack Obama was to create an expanded federal medical program, which was passed in 2010. It became known as “Obamacare”. To help pay for this expensive program, Obama locked arms with the climate movement by proposing a broad-based Carbon Tax. A carbon tax would have theoretically slowed down the use of fossil fuels. The carbon tax did not pass, but from that point, the Democratic Party stayed all in with their ‘Save the Planet’ voters.
When a political party takes on climate change as a core policy, will the other side be obliged to join them? Thus, climate change became a political divide between Democrats and Republicans, a toxic cocktail against making wise, non-partisan policy decisions.
President Obama committed America to the Paris Climate Accords of 2015; President Donald Trump removed the U.S. from the Accords in 2017. President Biden re-joined them immediately after taking office in January 2021. In December, Biden then went all in with his NET ZERO 50 Industrial Plan eleven months later. Biden followed this by committing as much as a trillion dollars of federal funds to implement the program with the passage of his Inflation Reduction Act of 2023.
Automobile manufacturers needed electric vehicle rebates to encourage electric vehicle sales, joining those who ingested the toxic cocktail mix. Scientists seeking government climate change grants did not receive them for reporting honestly that the United Nations’ monopoly on climate change and its remedies were merely UN Ponzi Schemes raiding Western economies and their taxpayers.
And finally, the financial world of investment bankers, billionaires, and other entrepreneurs could not resist the lure of massive profits by remaking or replacing the world’s giant energy industries. In just twenty-five short years, they could replace industrial complexes that took over 150 years to build. It is mindboggling! They, too, joined the parade. What could possibly go wrong?
Despite the momentum built up over twenty years, once Donald Trump was reelected and announced Biden’s NET Zero 50 Carbon Emissions program officially dead, killing the funding in his One Big Beautiful Bill, no major effort evolved to preserve it.
Trump’s opponents, the ‘Resistance’, took to the streets and the airways against his deportation, crime, and spending cut policies, but where were any protests of his cancelled energy policy?
Had they seen the European Union, in implementing its GREEN energy program, produce the highest energy costs on the planet, making its products increasingly non-competitive?
Could it be that those who promoted such a grand scheme knew that it was just a giant Ponzi Scheme?
Did they recognize all along that science, politics, bureaucracies, monopoly power, greed, academic hubris, and ideology all combine to produce a toxic cocktail? If it were allowed to continue, imbibing in this toxic cocktail would leave the world with a gigantic hangover well before the saloon closes.
Finding reasoned analysis and discussion becomes nearly impossible when too many variables are involved. Vested interests poisoned the waters to achieve objectivity on the issues involved. When political power strongly divides the populace from reaching accommodation, no coherent presentation of the facts will move a dedicated partisan to moderate his views from those dictated by his Party.
Whatever happened to this toxic cocktail? Not even the Resistance took time to protest!
