A few years ago, Americans of both political parties equally cherished living together, endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, including Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. These Rights were guaranteed under a Constitution, whose Founders have been deemed as divinely inspired. Now, 250 years later, Americans are the most prosperous and free people in recorded history.
In 2008 and 2012, the Obama Coalition won him a popular majority of voters in two straight elections, the first time since Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s wins in 1940 and 1944. It consisted of minorities, women, young, and moderate Democrats, but Donald Trump broke the coalition apart in 2016, when working-class voters in all categories of the old Obama Coalition shifted to Trump.
Political outsider Donald Trump twice disrupted the Democratic Party’s plans to dominate the American political scene. Instead of looking inwardly for their failures in both leadership and sound governing vision, they blamed Donald Trump personally. Desperate for a solution to their political misfortunes and voter losses, they opened their Big Tent to unpopular progressive issues. At the same time, Joe Biden sleepwalked during his four years in the presidency.
When Trump defeated the Democrats for a second time in 2024, they expanded their tent again to include the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). Article II. Purpose of the DSA Constitution (DSA Constitution & Bylaws – Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) defines their members as follows – italic, underlines, and bold face were added for emphasis.
We are socialists because we reject an economic order based on private profit, alienated labor, gross inequalities of wealth and power, discrimination based on race, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability status, age, religion, and national origin, and brutality and violence in defense of the status quo.
We are socialists because we share a vision of a humane social order based on popular control of resources and production, economic planning, equitable distribution, feminism, racial equality, and non-oppressive relationships.
We are socialists because we are developing a concrete strategy for achieving that vision, for building a majority movement that will make democratic socialism a reality in America.
We believe that such a strategy must acknowledge the class structure of American society and that this class structure means that there is a basic conflict of interest between those sectors with enormous economic power and the vast majority of the population.

Zohran Mamdani, a vocal member of DSA, put his nose into the Democrats’ Big Tent in winning his election as New York City Mayor on November 5, 2025. Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), Elizabeth Warren, Ilham Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and at least three other U.S. Democratic Congressmen are also admitted socialists. Advocating socialism, they are among the most politically active Democratic segment of the U.S. legislative body. Unknown other Democrats, or ‘Progressives’, remain in the political closet until they can allow their true socialist identities to be known.
The recent success of DSA candidates, running as Democrats, could be the canary in the cage preannouncing the repositioning of the Democratic Party from American capitalism to authoritarian socialism. In a recent Gallup poll, 66% of Democrats ‘viewed socialism favorably’.
The DSA Constitution is the antithesis of the U.S. Constitution; the two cannot coexist together. By allowing Mamdani and other socialists into the Democratic tent, the Democrats may find themselves like Esau, who gave away his birthright for a bowl of Red Stew.
Is the Democratic Party willing to trade the U.S. Constitution for that of the Democratic Socialists of America?
