Memorial Day Ghosts of the Past, Present, and Future: The Battle to Retain the American Republic

In 1990, that Memorial Day commemorated the end of the Cold War when the Berlin Wall came down and the Soviet Union, with its dreams of communist world domination, became unglued.  Except for the Ghosts of Memorial Days Past from the War Between the States, the Cold War was only the second ideological conflict faced by our Republic in the first two hundred years since our people separated from England.

When the wall came down under President George H.W. Bush, his was the last administration headed by the Greatest Generation, those who won the Second World War and led it through the successful conclusion of the Cold War.  The universal military draft ended in 1972, so over forty years later, few Americans have friends or relatives who served in the military.  Most honored in this year’s Memorial Day church services are elderly veterans of the Cold War.  The Middle East wars fought since 9/11have left few personal attachments to those Ghosts of Memorial Days Past.

The Ghosts of the Memorial Day Present, unreported in the media during the current holiday weekend, are those patriots battling in the Halls of Congress for our Republic to continue under a free-enterprise economy, not for it to be transformed into an authoritarian, government-controlled command economic system.  President Woodrow Wilson established the foundation for his American benevolent dictatorship with an Administrative State run by unelected experts. All power would be concentrated in Washington and insulated against the voting public and their elected Representatives.  Prerogatives reserved for the States in the Constitution were to be absorbed into Wilson’s federal Administrative State

Furthermore, during Wilson’s second term, the president was incapacitated by a stroke, unable to govern.  The power of the presidency was secretly administered by his wife and her close associates, who kept his cabinet officials, Congressional representatives, and the press away from the president for over a year.

Taking a page from the Wilson past and operating behind a shield of secrecy and accommodated by a hear-no-evil, see-no-evil, speak-no-evil national partisan press, another authoritarian cabal within the White House kept a mentally and physically challenged Joe Biden limited from public interaction for most of his four-year term.  This Memorial Weekend, CNN’s Washington lead anchor, Jake Tapper, reviewed his book in multiple self-justifying interviews explaining why he and CNN did not report this hijacking of the nation’s presidency.  Tapper’s book should reward him greatly, especially among CNN viewers oblivious to President Biden’s health issues reported upon by the alternative press and observed by much of the American public.

Since Wilson, U.S. economic activity has been shifting steadily from percentages that are in the private sector to increasing amounts controlled in the governmental sector.  This contrast in the two visions for our society is starkly visible in the voting patterns of the Representatives of the two political parties on the current budget bill – the “One Big Beautiful Bill”.  Without exception, House Democrats voted against the bill that prevented a major tax increase, lowered government spending, and relaxed regulatory control, each item that would have increased private sector participation in the economy.

Under Democratic leadership, but with Republican assistance, deficit spending increased by $2 trillion annually, and the federal debt ballooned to $37 trillion.  These numbers force a larger percentage of the nation’s wealth into the federal sector, reducing the influence of the private sector, elected officials, and the States.  If unresolved, the private sector will be reduced to a small black-market economy by 2050, the target takeover year for the Biden cabal to transform our energy economy into government control.

The current administration appointed businessman Elon Musk to reduce waste, fraud, and abuse in the federal government.  Tesla dealerships in Musk’s leading-edge EV company were torched by protestors who sanctioned government fraud and abuse as legitimate uses to obtain and maintain federal political power. Musk had previously received plaudits from the same group seeking to control our nation’s transportation and energy industries.

Unless another major war occurs, the Ghosts of Memorial Day Future, honored twenty-five years from now, will be those from the winning side, who always write history.  Will the future Memorial Day speakers expound on the merits of heroic Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, who spoke up against the evil Donald Trump, or will they bring cheers of “Fight! Fight! Fight!” from their crowds in memory of Trump’s escape from an assassin’s bullet and lead the country to a new Golden Age?

Happy Memorial Day.
